August 5, 2026 – Every child deserves to walk into the first day of school feeling prepared and confident. That’s why LKR was proud to contribute approximately $700 in school supplies to the Iowa City Association of REALTORS school supply drive, supporting the United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties’ annual Ready Set School event.
What Is Ready Set School?
Ready Set School is one of Johnson County’s most impactful back-to-school events, held this year on August 14 & 15, 2026 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds. The event is a collaborative effort between the United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties, The Salvation Army, Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County, Open Heartland, and Johnson County Community Violence Intervention.
Students in kindergarten through 12th grade who might not otherwise have access to the tools they need to succeed receive far more than just a backpack. At Ready Set School, kids can get:
- School supplies and backpacks
- Free haircuts
- Dental checkups
- Eye exams
- Vaccines
This year, organizers are working to collect 65,000 supply items to fill the backpacks of 2,000 local students, a powerful reminder of just how many families in our community rely on support like this before the school year begins.

Why LKR Got Involved
When the Iowa City Association of REALTORS organized a supply drive to support Ready Set School, it was an easy decision for our team. As REALTORS, we are in the business of helping people find home, and home means community. A community thrives when its kids thrive.
Our $700 donation in school supplies is a small piece of a much larger effort, but we believe every item collected makes a real difference for a local student walking into a new school year.
